About Us:
Reflection Press was created in order to support educators, families and children in using creativity to more deeply know and celebrate themselves. Reflection Press addresses two main areas in support of this. First we are committed to imagery that genuinely reflects children who are historically under-represented in media. We specifically identify children of color, girls, gender-variant children and differently-abled children. Reflection is a first and important step in knowing that we belong, we are here and we are not alone. This frees up a great deal of our energy and allows us to naturally want to care for our communities and environment.

Second, we are committed to providing experiences and materials to allow creativity to serve as a tool toward self-empowerment for everyone, primarily for under-represented communities. Not only is creativity a culturally significant and honored aspect of many communities of color, but it also provides us with the opportunity to create our own reflection and know ourselves more deeply.

Reflection Press is the vision and intent of spouses, and now business partners, Maya Christina and Matthew Smith-Gonzalez. Founded in September 2009 in San Francisco, California.

"Art is not a thing; it is a way." - Elbert Hubbard

Our Mission:
Reflection Press is committed to imagery that genuinely reflects ALL children in their wide spectrum of expression and being. We believe that by embracing the creative force that flows through all things and fully entering the present moment, we can come into a more balanced state of being and so learn to respectfully embody a stance of equality. By using creativity and presence as a tool for self-empowerment, we believe we can empower our children to create and sustain their own reflection and through process and product know themselves more deeply.

What We Offer:
Reflection Press provides workshops, presentations, lectures, and curriculum that engage the creative force. We also work to provide imagery that begins to reflect children who are often overlooked in current media. Through coloring books, posters, prints, and online resources for children and the educators who work with them, we strive to reach and empower as many children as possible. We trust the strength and insight of children and wish to support them in the creation of a world that sustains all nature and people for generations to come. For when we feel reflected in our world, we sense that we belong and that this is our world to love and create and change.
