What is Gender?
If we look to popular media, we'd probably assume that there are only two genders and that blue is for boys and pink is for girls. While great strides have been made over the last decades regarding gender roles and expression, it's obvious that gender expectations still remain fairly rigid. We still hear stories of young boys bullied even killed for expressing anything less than a macho exterior.

Look to Nature. Society would also have us believe that nature is just as rigid, but one only look closely to see that the natural world is much more diverse than we could ever imagine. Nature loves and thrives on diversity. Perhaps it's time we expand our notion of gender now.

And perhaps the more important question is:
How do we support our children in feeling free to be exactly who they are regardless of the body they were born into?
