Childrens Book Press, nonprofit publisher of multicultural and bilingual books, received the 2009 Community Leadership Award from The San Francisco Foundation. In this video created by Citizen Film for the award ceremony, Lorraine García-Nakata, Publisher & Executive Director, discusses the importance of diversity and literacy. Maya's newest book, I Know the River Loves Me, is featured as it is being read to a group of children.

Upcoming Conferences:
Maya will be presenting some of the lessons of the Claiming Face curriculum at the Early Childhood Conference on March 13, 2010 at Chabot College in Hayward, CA. This conference is specifically geared toward early childhood professionals who educate or care for infants, toddlers, preschoolers and school-age children. More specific details coming soon, meanwhile you can register by visiting their website.
