Inspiring Lectures

Maya Gonzalez speaks on a range of topics for lectures, including: The Importance of Reflection, Creativity as a Tool to Empower, The Power of Presence and Beginning with Yourself, and more. Lectures are often accompanied by slideshows of her artwork that provide stunning visuals to her engaging and thought-provoking discourse. The format is mostly geared toward educators, librarians, student teachers, administrators, and those who come into contact with many children in the course of their work. She has given keynotes, spoken for university programs and libraries, and lectured at conferences from Oregon to Arizona to South Carolina. Sometimes wearing a paint smattered smock as she does often in her children's presentations or dressed in her favorite color pink, Maya delivers a powerful message that is sure to have you coming away refreshed and inspired.

Maya lecturing at the Reading the World Conference Maya also often uses this format as an opportunity to discuss the philosophy behind Claiming Face and specifically how it can be used in the classroom with children. Additionally she often leads participants in doing, for themselves, the powerful work of Claiming Face.

Our inspirations section contains a brief snippet from a lecture Maya gave at the Reading the World Conference in San Francisco in 2008. In this video she discusses how she works with children in the classroom and some of the philosophy behind Claiming Face and The 3 Rules.

Maya is comfortable providing lectures to groups of varying numbers. These can be anywhere from small more intimate groups of 10-25 people to larger assembly style lectures such as a keynote. The availability of a projector for PowerPoint presentations is ideal although not required. In the absence of a projector, Maya will often bring tangible examples of her art and books.
